This erotic drama explores the passionate life of Marquise du Parc – certainly one of the most infamous courtesans during the reign of King Louis XIV of France.

Born into poverty, Marquise, a young promiscuous woman, Uses her exquisite beauty and seductive dancing to earn her living.

When the distinguished Moliere and his theater troupe come into town, Marquise mesmerizes the men and especially lead actor, Rene du Parc (nicknamed Gros Rene), who falls head over heels for her and ask her hand in marriage. She agrees to his proposal, but only on the condition that she joins the theater group and becomes an actress. Unfortunately, her talent does not measure up to her beauty.

Now married woman, she continues to have a tawdry and illicit affairs with many other men. Wave after wave of opportunity brings her closer to Paris and her first performance at the court of Louis XIV. Despite tremendous stage fright, her grace and beauty amuse and enchant the King. The pomp and the circumstance at the grand palace adds color to the goings on with the charismatic theatre troupe.

Gros Rene is deeply in love with his wife and will stop at nothing to please her, he even accepts his wife’s “frivolities” with other men, until the arrival of Jean Racine into their lives.

Racine also falls madly in love with the ravishing Marquise du Parc, however, she refuses to leave Gros Rene. Although she is flirtatious in manner, she still carries honor and integrity in her heart. Only once Gross Rene passes away can she begin to live her passion for Racine.

With Racine’s coaching, Marquise delivers a passionate performance, exhibiting the art and essence of his play Andromaque. Racine’s appointment as the King‘s personal biographer and this demand on his time and the attention cause him to neglect Marquise. These and another betrayals lead to the tragic demise of the devastated Marquise.
